C'est l'histoire du "voleur", Albert Spica, grossier et violent prétendu gourmet, de "sa femme", Georgina, une soumise qui tente d'échapper à son grandiloquent mari, "le cuisinier", ami de cette dernière et craignant ardemment Mr Spica, et enfin Michael, "l'amant" de Georgina, libraire. Chronique de la vie peu ordinaire de ce petit monde et escalade vers une conclusion forcément stupéfiante, tant dans l'image que dans la tension narrative.
