Roumanie, le 22 décembre 1989. La révolution est à son point d'orgue avec la chute du dictateur Nicolea Ceausescu. Pisconi, un vieil homme à la retraite, se prépare à passer Noël tout seul, une fois de plus. Manescu, professeur d'histoire, voudrait bien ne pas perdre tout son salaire dans le remboursement de ses dettes. De son côté, Jderescu, le propriétaire de la télévision locale, n'a pas l'air très intéressé par les vacances mais se pose plutôt la question : y a-t-il eu une révolution en-dehors de la capitale ?
