Jake et Will Grimm (Heath Ledger et Matt Damon) sont deux frères qui, du temps de Napoléon, se rendent de village en village afin d'y escroquer la population locale en combattant des monstres et démons imaginaires. Cependant les autorités françaises, une fois au courant de leurs activités, obligent les deux escrocs à résoudre une affaire réelle. En effet, dans les forêts entre l'Allemagne et la France, ont été commis une série d'assassinats dans des circonstances très mystérieuses. Afin d'éviter que de nouveaux meurtres soient commis, Jake et Will doivent découvrir qui ou quoi en est responsable.


