Au début des années 90, Danny Tate, journaliste britannique qui lutte contre son penchant pour l'alcool, est envoyé aux Etats-Unis interviewer Hervé Villechaize. L'acteur français, atteint de nanisme, a connu son heure de gloire dans les années 70 grâce à ses rôles dans la série L'Ile fantastique ou encore dans L'Homme au pistolet d'or. Au cours d'une soirée mouvementée à Los Angeles, Hervé retrace les hauts et les bas de sa carrière à Danny, son rapport à la célébrité et l'impact du regard des autres sur lui.
