De focus ligt hierbij voornamelijk op de laatste maanden van Lincolns leven, waaronder ingezoomd wordt op de permanente afschaffing van de slavernij, die het gevolg was van een zeer nipte stemming in het Huis van Vertegenwoordigers over het 13e Amendement.
