Thomas verlaat Parijs en reist af naar Marseille om er het lichaam van zijn broer Richard te gaan identificeren. Ze waren elkaar al jaren uit het oog verloren en Thomas is het enig overgebleven familielid. Nieuwsgierig naar het hoe en waarom van Richards dood trekt Thomas naar hun iets verder gelegen geboortedorp. Vlakbij dit rustige kustdorpje huurt hij een kamer bij Jeanne, een ex-vriendin van Richard. Hij vertelt haar echter niet dat hij diens broer is.


