Heidi Bergman is een maatschappelijk werker bij het Homecoming Transitional Support Center, een instelling van de Geist Group die soldaten helpt terug te keren naar het burgerleven. Walter Cruz is één van deze soldaten die staat te popelen om aan de volgende fase van zijn leven te beginnen. Intussen is Colin Belfast, een ambitieuze zakenman met twijfelachtige motieven, de manager van Heidi en de instelling. Vier jaar later is Heidi zelf een nieuw leven begonnen. Ze woont samen met haar moeder en werkt als serveerster. Dan komt plots een inspecteur van het Ministerie van Defensie langs en ondervraagt haar over de reden waarom ze bij Homecoming is weggegaan. Heidi beseft dat er een heel andere waarheid schuilt achter het verhaal dat ze zichzelf voorhoudt.
