Coco, 40 jaar oud, een selfmade man, is het perfecte voorbeeld van sociaal succes. Beginnend met niets, immigrerend, heeft hij in 15 jaar een van de meest oogverblindende succesverhalen van de moderne tijd bereikt dankzij zijn uitvinding van kronkelend water. Maar voor Coco moet de grootste toewijding nog komen: de bar mitswa van haar zoon Samuel, die over zes maanden zal plaatsvinden. Hij nodigt iedereen uit voor het "nationale evenement van het jaar" en belooft iets ongekends, adembenemends, Coco! Te geobsedeerd door het vooruitzicht om de hele wereld te imponeren voor "zijn" feest, gedraagt Coco zich buitensporig en grenst hij aan waanzin zonder te zien dat zijn vrouw, zijn zoon, zijn moeder en al zijn familieleden zich geleidelijk distantiëren. Deze gebeurtenis zal voor hem een moment van waarheid worden over zijn rol als vader.
