Tony is een ongeschoolde tiener uit Brooklyn. Het hoogtepunt van elke week is zijn bezoek aan de disco, waar hij de koning van de dansvloer is. Tony ontmoet Stephanie daar, en ze besluiten om samen te gaan dansen in een wedstrijd. Ze weet Tony's pogingen om haar te verleiden te weerstaan, aangezien ze grotere plannen heeft: verhuizen naar Manhattan. Langzaam raakt Tony ook gedesillusioneerd met zijn leven, en hij en Stephanie besluiten elkaar te helpen om een nieuwe start te maken.
