Averroès en Rosa Parks zijn twee afdelingen van het Esquirol-ziekenhuis en maken, net als de Adamant, deel uit van de Parijse Centrale Psychiatrische Groep. Regisseur Nicolas Philibert toont in deze film hoe er binnen deze instelling écht geluisterd wordt naar de patiënten en hoe men hen in hun waarde laat. Via individuele gesprekken en ontmoetingen tussen hulpverlener en patiënt krijgen we stap voor stap een inkijk in hun leefwereld. Beetje bij beetje openen de patiënten de deur naar hun eigen verhaal.
