Be With Me" is een film over mensen en hun zoektocht naar liefde. Hij speelt zich af in de straten van Singapore en behandelt zonder een zweem van cynisme thema's als stedelijke eenzaamheid en sentimentele melancholie. Drie verhalen lopen door elkaar: de ongelukkige liefde van een adolescent voor zijn schoolvriendinnetje, de platonische liefde van een afzichtelijke nachtwaker voor een knappe bediende en de tijdloze liefde van een blinde en dove vrouw voor haar vriend die 35 jaar voordien verdween. Die vrouw is Theresa Chan en "Be With Me" is gedeeltelijk haar ontroerende biografie. Gedeeltelijk, want regisseur Khoo verweeft haar verhaal met de twee andere, die qua thema nauw bij elkaar aansluiten. De gevoeligheid en de subtiele toon van de film komen perfect tot uiting in de sobere en geraffineerde regie. "Be With Me" bewijst dat de mooiste minimalistische films oneindige perspectieven kunnen vastleggen - die van het hart en de ziel.
