Het verhaal speelt zich af in een rustige Amerikaanse voorstad. Het is avond, het sneeuwt hevig en Kerstmis is in aantocht. Deandra en Robert Lerner (Madsen en Warburton) hebben Ashley (DeJonge) als babysitter ingehuurd om op hun 12-jarige zoon (Miller) te passen. Zij zal de jongen moeten beschermen wanneer een groep vreemdelingen het huis probeert in te breken. Binnen korte tijd ontdekt Ashley dat het niet zomaar om een normale huisinbraak gaat.
