Dolf Vega speelt voor het Nederlandse team van +16jarigen. Door zijn schuld verliest de ploeg tegen België op het Europees kampioenschap. Als hij thuiskomt heeft zijn moeder weinig tijd voor hem want ze staat op het punt een belangrijke ontdekking te doen in haar onderzoek naar tijdreizen. Dolf besluit de machine van zijn moeder uit te proberen en 12uur terug te reizen in de tijd om zijn fout goed te maken. Helaas komt Dolf echter niet dezelfde namiddag terecht, maar in het jaar 1212. Vlakbij is de kinderkruistocht op doortocht. Dolf kan niet direct terug naar het heden en in de onveilige middeleeuwen is het beter zich aan te sluiten bij de massa.


