Ren MacCormack (Kenny Wormald) verhuist van Boston naar het zuidelijke plaatsje Bomont, waar het een stuk saaier is dan in de grote stad. Nadat er in Bomont een tragisch ongeluk plaatsvond, waarbij vijf jongeren na een avond stappen om het leven kwamen, heeft gemeenteraadslid en dominee Shaw Moore (Dennis Quaid) harde muziek en dansen verboden. Ren trekt zich niets aan van deze regels en tijdens een van de feestjes wordt hij ook nog verliefd op Ariel (Julianne Hough) de dochter van dominee Shaw Moore...


