Halloween 1963. De 6-jarige Michael Myers neemt een mes uit de keukenla en loopt de trap op, waar hij zijn oudere zus vermoord. Hij wordt daarna opgenomen in een psychiatrische kliniek. Hij is nu 21 en er moet bepaald worden of hij vrijgelaten mag worden. De dokter die zich al die jaren met hem bezighield vindt dat Michael nooit vrij mag komen. Maar Michael wacht het onderzoek niet af en ontsnapt. Hij keert terug naar huis waar hij doorgaat met moorden tijdens Halloween.
