Emotionele bagage uit het verleden maakt het de introverte Lars moeilijk het leven te omarmen. Na jaren van eenzaamheid nodigt hij Bianca, een vriendin die hij op internet heeft ontmoet, uit voor een bezoekje. Hij stelt haar voor aan zijn broer Gus en diens vrouw Karen. Gus en Karen staan verstomd. Want Bianca blijkt een levensechte pop en Lars behandelt haar alsof ze echt leeft. Ze consulteren een dokter en krijgen het advies mee te gaan in Lars' fantasie. Al snel is het hele dorp op de hoogte...


