Diane, een alleenstaande moeder, probeert haar onrustige puberzoon weer op de rails te krijgen. Steve kan heel lief en zacht zijn maar op het andere moment uiterst druk en soms zelfs gewelddadig. Diane kan Steve's stemmingen maar moeilijk onder controle krijgen. Een nieuwe vriendschap met een verlegen buurvrouw, die een klik met zowel moeder als zoon heeft, lijkt het tij te doen keren.


