Op de avond van haar tweeënvijftigste verjaardag kondigt de lerares literatuur, Manana, haar familie onverwacht aan dat ze vertrekt. Ze is dertig jaar getrouwd en woont in een appartement in Tbilisi met haar man, ouders, twee kinderen en haar schoonzoon. Aanvankelijk nemen ze haar niet serieus, maar dan pakt ze haar koffers en vertrekt ze. De familie is geschokt: waar gaat ze naartoe? Ze is immers al 'te oud om te scheiden', heeft een goede man die niet drinkt, geen drugs gebruikt en haar niet slaat.


