Autocoureur Ricky Bobby (Will Ferrell) is een Nascar legende. Samen met zijn maatje Cal Naughton Jr.(John C. Reilly) wint hij elke race. Met hun spectaculaire inhaalmanoeuvres en spetterende juichmomentjes stelen ze het hart van iedere racefan. Het gaat echter mis als de flamboyante Franse Formule 1 racer Jean Girrard (Sacha Baron Cohen) hem uitdaagt voor een race. Bobby krijgt het moeilijk en moet alles op alles zetten deze tegenstander van formaat te verslaan.


