In het romantische The Best of Me zien schoolgeliefden Dawson (James Marsden) en Amanda (Michelle Monaghan) elkaar na twintig jaar terug tijdens de begrafenis van een oude vriend. Het weerzien en de terugkomst naar hun vroegere woonplaats doet de vonk weer overspringen. Twintig jaar blijkt echter een lange tijd en het stel wordt geconfronteerd met pijnlijke herinneringen en onthullingen. Vindt ware liefde uiteindelijk toch zijn weg?
