De bekende televisieserie van de jaren tachtig kreeg een avondvullende speelfilm met de stemmen van bekende acteurs. In 2005 is de grote oorlog tussen twee groepen van robots - de Autobots en de Decepticons - volop aan de gang. De Decepticons proberen een magisch wapen te vernietigen, zodat ze de Autobots kunnen uitschakelen en de wereld kunnen veroveren.
