Tot zijn woede wordt Napoleon Bonaparte na een nederlaag verbannen naar het eiland Elba. Hij laat het hier niet bij zitten en weet met duizend man terug te keren naar het vasteland, waar hij vervolgens steeds meer troepen weet te verzamelen. Wanneer hij een groot leger gevormd heeft, gaat hij de strijd aan met de Britse generaal Arthur Wellesley. De twee legers ontmoeten elkaar in Waterloo, waar de beslissende slag moet gaan plaatsvinden.
