Engeland jaren 80. Na de tragische dood van een au pair, huurt Henry Wingrave een jong Amerikaanse kindermeisje, Dani Clayton, in om voor zijn verweesde nichtje en neefje te zorgen op het landgoed Bly Manor. Ze wonen daar met chef-kok Owen, tuinvrouw Jamie en de huishoudster, mevrouw Grose. Aangekomen op het landgoed, begint Dani verschijningen te zien die het pand blijven achtervolgen.
